This Gossip Girl Wasn’t Pretty Reckless

In a couple of weeks, Rogers Arena will host Taylor Momsen, former cast member of the television show Gossip Girl, when her band, The Pretty Reckless, opens for Nickelbak.  This past Sunday night, at the Rio Theatre, we paid homage to a much different Gossip GirlLeighton Meester.  Other than the fact that both performers were on the hit television show, Gossip Girl, the two concerts would be worlds apart.  Here is what we thought of the first world; Leighton.

Night Eyes is the debut album of SAVVIE, the brainchild of Vancouver singer songstress Savannah Leigh Wellman, a woman who has gracefully navigated her way through the music industry for nearly a decade. “I’ve been a part of the industry not just as a musician, but through helping other indie artists via my work at Music BC.” says Wellman. “I’ve also been a part of the PEAK Performance Project since it began 6 years ago, which has been an amazing source of inspiration and friendships.”

When Leighton came to stage she was greeted by several young fans who had made their way to the front of the stage to welcome her to Vancouver.  Many of the fans shouted out their appreciation for Leighton, her looks, her music, and her overall presence.  The music tonight was ‘calmly’ different from that produced by Leighton’s former co-actor, Taylor Momsen, and I was impressed with Leighton’s relaxed style and her not so over-the-top flashy personality. Down to earth is cool.

It would be pretty cool if you supported us on our new Facebook and Twitter accounts!
